This marks a 36% increase from previous estimates, reflecting robust industry growth. Key roles in demand include mechanical and electrical maintainers, supervisors, and equipment operators. Additionally, female participation in the sector has risen significantly, although enrolment in mining education programs remains low.

A new £2.6 million centre, led by the University of Leicester, will serve as a multi-institution hub for doctoral training in mineral resources. The Training and Research Group for Energy Transition Mineral Resources (TARGET) Centre, funded by the Natural Environment Research Council, will provide comprehensive training covering the entire lifecycle of minerals. This initiative aims to support the UK's transition to sustainable energy by equipping experts with essential skills in exploration, processing, finance, policy, and sustainability.
